Independently-owned KOMU-TV Columbia, Mo., has launched "Poverty in Plain Sight," a special multiyear initiative that aims to understand and address poverty in Mid-Missouri. The campaign will include a series of news reports on poverty and its associated effects on issues including education, crime, health care, housing, transportation and hunger. "The statistics were startling, and we felt compelled to act in a public service capacity in hopes that we could draw attention to this crisis in our area," said KOMU-TVís General Manager Marty Siddall.
