Tegna’s NBC affiliate KING-TV Seattle investigated wait times that developmentally disabled residents face when accessing services, including speech, occupational and physical therapy, adaptive equipment, transportation, medical supplies, training and counseling. The problem was first documented in 1950, Washington state created a wait list for people who met the criteria to be deemed eligible for assistance. At launch, 1,000 people were on the list. Today, there are nearly 15,000.
